This publication is a mid-term assessment report of LoGIC, the Local Government Initiative on Climate Change (LoGIC) project that focuses on local climate change adaptation (CCA) in 7 climate vulnerable districts of Bangladesh. LoGIC is designed to enhance the capacity of Local Government Institutions (LGIs), vulnerable communities, and civil society organizations (CSOs) to engage in effective and inclusive local-level planning and financing. LoGIC is a Nationally Implemented Project (NIM) executed by the Local Government Division (LGD) of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (MoLGRD&C), Government of Bangladesh (GoB).

The World Mental Health Report 2022, released by World Health Organization (WHO) elucidates the current scenario and scope of mental health. Using the lens of gender and economy it aims to catalyze action to inspire and inform better mental health for everyone, everywhere. Mental health systems all over the world are marked by overarching imbalances in information and research, governance, resources and services. The report concludes with two recommendations, first we must deepen the value and commitment we give to mental health as individuals, communities and governments. Secondly, the physical, social and economic characteristics of environments need to be reshaped to better protect mental health and prevent mental health conditions.

Village Health, Sanitation and Nutrition Days make a difference in Bihar

Pregnant women and lactating mothers along with children and adolescent girls are provided with need- based integrated health and nutrition solutions on Village Health, Sanitation and Nutrition Days (VHSNDs) on an assured basis in the state. VHSNDs serve as days when not only health care checks are done and weights of pregnant women and children are recorded, but also where women are counselled on essential nutrition by them and their children. VHSNDs are proving useful to provide services as well as raise awareness on basic health needs among the community.

Environment, forests and climate change

The complex interlinkages between poverty, development and the environment are well known: environmental degradation often affects the poor disproportionately, but poverty can also be a driver of unsustainable natural resource use and environmental decline. These impacts are amplified through the effect of climate change; and all impacts play out differently across differences in gender, social class and ethnicity. Forests, in particular, play an important role in the global ecosystem, intersecting with issues across multiple dimensions from livelihoods and land use through to forest management and monitoring, global trade and the management of global carbon emissions.
