Nutrition

Every second pregnant woman is anemic, while a quarter of women in the reproductive age are undernourished. Globally, India is home to one-third of the world's stunted children. The intergenerational cycle of malnutrition remains a silent crisis with an adverse impact on productivity and economic development. CKD re-invigorates the fight against maternal undernutrition, prevent low birth weight, anaemia, and stunting to accelerate women, children, and adolescent girls' physical and cognitive development. By energising community ownership and collaboration with local and national governments, we will implement proven interventions to break the obstinate legacy of malnutrition.

Prabhat Nutrition

Reduce wasting and low birth weight in children of 0-3 years and improve the health and nutritional status of adolescent, pregnant, and lactating women

With the support of Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL), the Prabhat Nutrition Programme is transforming lives across 300 villages in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab, and Daman & Diu. Through the dedication of “Nutrition Buddies” and Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) sessions, families are discovering the power of self-reliance.

Sashakt 2.0

Empowering Women and Girls with Knowledge on Health and Nutrition in Ganjam, Odisha

Supported by GAIL Gas Ltd., Project Sashakt 2.0 is on a mission to break the intergenerational cycle of anaemia, turning a history of fatigue into a future of resilience across six Gram Panchayats in the Beguniapada and Ganjam blocks.

Self-Help Groups, youth clubs, and schools have become changemakers, equipping women and adolescents to make healthier choices through more than 30 awareness meetings, street plays, and vibrant wall paintings. Over 400 women learned to prepare balanced, locally inspired meals through Trianga Thali demonstrations, and 150 Nutri-gardens now bloom across homes and community spaces, ensuring sustainable access to iron-rich foods. School-based sessions nurtured healthy habits early in life, while 15 anaemia testing camps reached more than 2,500 people, offering counselling, nutrition packs, and needed referrals.

Project Sashakt

Empowering Women and Girls with Knowledge on Health and Nutrition

Supported by GAIL (India) Limited, Project 'Sashakt' aims to enhance health and nutrition awareness among tribal adolescents (10-19 years old), their caregivers- teachers/wardens/families and frontline health workers (ASHAs/ANMs/AWWs) in two blocks: Jhabua & Meghnagar of Jhabua district, Madhya Pradesh. This project centres on raising awareness about Anemia and Sickle Cell Anemia among adolescents and their families. Its primary focus is to foster healthier habits in this demographic. Additionally, caregivers will be informed about targeted messages that debunk myths and address misconceptions, ultimately motivating adolescents to adopt better eating habits regarding quantity and quality of food.

RajPusht

Transforming systems for high impact nutrition results

Rajpusht, a joint initiative of Children's Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), UK and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), collaborates with the Government of Rajasthan towards removing barriers to maternal and child health and prioritising nutrition. The project strengthens the Integrated Child Development Services Programme (ICDS) and has developed a state-wide social and behaviour change strategy to fight under-nutrition, targeting individual, family and community behaviours.

We Can

Collaboration for nutrition

WeCan, funded by BMGF, supported the identification, aggregation and dissemination of insights from innovative and scalable models on nutrition for rural women and children in Rajasthan, Odisha, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Adopting a collective approach, the project served as a strategic platform for governments, donors and development partners. This facilitated convergence and cross-learning that influenced policy and programmatic design.

Maternal Nutrition

Implementation Research for the Integration of Interventions

In collaboration with Alive & Thrive, a global initiative of BMGF, the project worked with the Government of Uttar Pradesh to mainstream delivery of maternal nutrition within existing health programmes. Design and implementation of multi-pronged strategies led to behaviour change of pregnant women and their immediate family members.

The project has created a repository of training modules and job aids for front line workers and monitoring formats and communication collaterals for community engagement activities.
